What is it?

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid chains, dissolving and absorbing injected HA filler within hours to days. It's essentially the only way to reverse filler that's overdone or misplaced, or filler-related problems (lumps, vascular compression, etc.). However, it only works on HA fillers and has no effect on fillers made of other materials such as calcium (CaHA) or PLLA.

Who it's for

  • HA filler overcorrection, asymmetry, migration or lumps (nodules)
  • Tyndall effect (filler showing through as a bluish tint)
  • Emergency use when filler-related vascular occlusion is suspected (at the medical team's discretion)
  • Results: usually a clear reduction within 1–2 days; repeated if needed

At Datena

  • You'll wait 10 minutes in the clinic right after treatment to check for allergic reactions before heading home
  • Precisely dissolving only one specific spot is not possible

Before treatment

  • Allergy history check (we especially ask about bee/wasp venom allergy, since cross-reactions have been reported)
  • We check the type of your existing filler (whether it's HA), when it was done, and where
  • We check whether you're pregnant or breastfeeding

After treatment

  • Slight swelling or bruising for 2–3 days
  • We'll ask you to contact us right away if you notice swelling, itching, a rash or any other unusual reaction
  • Results are usually reassessed after a few days to 2 weeks
  • When to re-fill: generally recommended after 1–2 weeks or later

Good to know

  • Allergic reaction: hives, itching, swelling; anaphylaxis has rarely been reported — this is the most important risk
  • Bruising, swelling and pain at the injection site
  • Your own (natural) skin hyaluronic acid can also be temporarily broken down, making the area look a bit hollow (it recovers within days to weeks)
  • More filler may dissolve than intended (over-correction) → a touch-up treatment may be needed

Pairs well with

  • Combined with foreign-body removal injections (for lesions containing HA)
  • Follow-up consultation after dissolving to re-plan with new filler, lifting and more
"An enzyme injection that dissolves only HA filler" "Allergy test first — safety comes first" "You'll usually see changes within 1–2 days, and we can split it into sessions if needed" "Your skin's own hyaluronic acid may dip briefly, but it recovers"

Results and recovery time vary depending on your skin. Pricing and the exact number of sessions will be explained during your consultation after diagnosis. Written based on in-clinic materials as of October 2026.
