Two treatments, two names
"Saesal acupuncture" is a scar treatment name used mainly at Korean medicine clinics. It's usually described as stimulating the scarred area with acupuncture needles to encourage regeneration. "Subcision" is a dermatology procedure: a needle cuts the fibrous bands pulling the scar down from below, and a medication that helps build new tissue is placed in that space. Both share the goal of "lifting depressed scars," but they do different things.
Why depressed scars don't lift
Depressed scars involve two overlapping problems: fibrous bands tethering the scar from below, and scar tissue that has already hardened. Stimulation alone lets the bands pull back down; cutting the bands alone leaves the hardened tissue as it is. That's why at Datena we release the bands with subcision and CureJet while delivering medication, then resurface the hardened tissue with UltraPulse Encore CO2 so new skin can come up. Doing all three steps in a single session is our Skin Therapy Program (Salgyeol Therapy).
If saesal acupuncture didn't work for you
No single method, whatever it is, can smooth out every dip and bump in a scar. If one approach didn't work for you, we take a fresh look at the scar's shape, depth and how hardened it is, and add a different mechanism. At your first consultation, we'll tell you honestly how much improvement is realistic. We don't blame the treatments you've had before. Different scars simply call for different methods.
Compare side by side
Subcision is a physical treatment that cuts the fibrous bands with a needle, combined with injecting medication. Results build up with each session and don't revert. Redness lasts about a week, and you can go about your daily life from the next day. 40 before-and-after photos →
